A month and a bit ago, this split EP by the Polish bands PURSUER and NIGHT LORD was released, bearing the imaginative title “Pursuing the Night” (clever idea, created from the band names!). It came out through the fiery Ossuary Records (Hail Mateusz!!!). Both bands are now well-known in the underground, we have hosted them before on Filthy Dogs Of Metal for interviews, which you can read HERE & HERE. Each band contributes two tracks, and the CD kicks off with PURSUER, featuring “Princess of the Crimson Dusk” and “Spell of the Night”. Fast speed metal with catchy melodies and memorable choruses that stick in your head, you find yourself humming them internally. Especially “Princess of the Crimson Dusk” is a killer song, with a scorching metallic guitar riff, furious vocals, bass lines a guitarist would envy, and fast drumming with some playful cymbal tricks! One thing I want to point out (not that it matters much) is the somewhat “live” production of these two PURSUER tracks. They sound almost like they released a recorded rehearsal, which makes the overall result a bit weak. Of course, this doesn’t negate the fact that both compositions are really, really good! Next up are NIGHTLORD with “In the Hall of the Damned Shrine” and “White Nights”. Two compositions of metallic speed metal (to my ears, more like black/speed metal) taken to the maximum! Nervous, hellish playing with catchy guitars that make your head spin back and forth! Infernal vocals that “possess” you and steamroller drums, in the second track we even hear blast beats! Two very powerful songs that won’t leave you unmoved. A big congratulations to both bands for their work. These are the kinds of bands we need in metal! Bands that raise the metallic flag high. Well done, guys!! They are still young, full of passion for the music, and it shows, and you can hear it too. Also, a huge shout-out to Mateusz of Ossuary Records for supporting all these bands through his label. “Pursuing the Night” is available on CD, black vinyl, and as a limited edition of 100 copies on bi-color red/blue vinyl with splatter. All faithful metalheads and connoisseurs, approach without fear. For those who do not yet know these bands and are reading about them for the first time, make the effort to discover them. I’m telling you honestly, a whole new metal world will open up around you, and you will stop being the sheep of mainstream metal!
