The Polish band VARNHEIM has been active in the black metal scene for 13 years, both live and in the studio, with 3 albums in their discography. Their latest (third) release is "Void," which came out about a month ago through the dynamic and fiery record label, Godz Ov War Productions (Hail Greg!!!). The band's members are experienced musicians involved in various other metal (and non-metal) projects, and this experience is evident in VARNHEIM's music. Their compositions are dense, mature, dynamic, rich, and inspired. The album consists of four tracks with a total duration of 42 minutes. How many times have we had long discussions with friends about what makes an album complete and when something is considered a mini-album, depending on its length and the number of tracks it contains? Hahaha, endless metal discussions that never lead to a conclusion. So, what would we call VARNHEIM's new record in this case? Is it an EP or a mini-LP because it only contains four songs? But the total duration is 42 minutes! That’s not an EP, it’s a full album! Someone else might argue, “But it only has four tracks,” so it's an EP... Hahaha... I don’t think we’ll ever settle on these definitions! Personally, for me, "Void" is a complete album. The compositions are dark, depressive, and deeply introspective, with many fast black metal outbursts, but this doesn't exclude melodic elements. All four tracks on this album feature beautiful guitar melodies and some particularly unique guitar solos. Listen to "Onwards," especially the guitar solo part, where the bass transitions create something very beautiful and emotional. What characterizes VARNHEIM's compositions is the dark atmosphere their songs evoke and their introspective nature. The listener has a lot to discover and hear in VARNHEIM’s music, as they expertly blend modern black metal with melodic passages that are suffocating and emotional, while the foundation of their music is classic and infernal black metal as we know it - aggressive, rough, fast, and barbaric. The production of the album is full, dense, and powerful. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Filip Hałucha at Heinrich House Studio. The album cover is dark and mysterious, created by Tomasz Dobrzeniecki (a well-known musician/artist from Poland in the metal scene, check Hazael, Empheris, and more…).
