HESSIAN / SATANIC EMPIRE - LUCIFER'S RISING IN ETERNAL GLORY
Country: USA / Brazil
Year: 2025
Label: Murder Records / Southern Soundclash Records
''Lucifer's Rising in Eternal Glory'' is a split release between US black metal band Hessian and Brazilian black metal band Satanic Empire. The release contains three tracks from each band and lasts around 16 minutes, so this is a short and direct release. Hessian start things off with “We Summon Him,” “Utuk Xul Command” and “Raise the Seal Then Sign Blood Moon Black Moon.” Their side is built around raw black metal, with a dirty guitar sound, simple riffs and a very underground production. The opening track is a short intro, while the other two tracks give you a better idea of what Hessian are doing. There is nothing polished about these songs, and that works well for this kind of music. The riffs are simple but effective, and the overall sound has that rough feeling you would expect from a release like this. Satanic Empire take over with “Ave Lúcifer,” “Lord of Conscious Power” and “Herétic Death Call.” Their side has a similar raw approach, but there is also more of a black/death and war metal feeling in the music. “Lord of Conscious Power” is the longest track on the split at just over five minutes, giving the band more time to develop their sound. The final song is a cover of Black Witchery's “Heretic Death Call,” which fits quite naturally with the rest of the release. It does not feel out of place and keeps the same aggressive atmosphere until the end. What I like about this split is that both bands have a similar approach. There is no attempt to make the music clean or modern. Everything is raw, simple and focused on the underground black metal sound. The only real downside is the short running time. By the time you get into it, the split is already over. On the other hand, it also makes it easy to play again without feeling like you are listening to a very long release. ''Lucifer's Rising in Eternal Glory'' is a good choice for listeners who enjoy raw black metal and underground releases with a simple and aggressive sound. Both bands fit well together, and the split works as a short and straightforward listen.
