HESSIAN / IMMORTAL FLAME / TEUFELSDOM – CONSULTATIONS OF THE OBSCURE IN THE SHADOW OF ANTIQUE DARKNESS
Country: USA / Sweden / Russia
Year: 2026
Label: Murder Records / Southern Soundclash Records
This three-way split CD brings together Hessian from the USA, Immortal Flame from Sweden and Teufelsdom from Russia. With only five tracks, this is another short release, but each band brings something a little different to the table. Hessian open the split with “The Invocation Of Attinga” and “Call To The Iron Watchers.” Their side is raw black metal with a rough production and a lot of speed. The first track is especially aggressive, with fast drums and a simple guitar melody that stays in your head. The second track follows the same direction but gives the guitars a little more room. Immortal Flame are next with “End Of Humanity” and “Here Rests Knowledge.” Their sound is also rooted in black metal, but their songs feel a little more varied than the Hessian tracks. The guitars have a good balance between fast parts and slower sections, while the vocals fit well with the raw production. Teufelsdom close the split with “Мертворождённый”, a track that runs for just over six minutes. Their side feels darker and slower compared to the other two bands, with a more traditional Russian black metal approach. The longer running time also gives the song more space to develop. ''Consultations of the Obscure in the Shadow of Antique Darkness'' is a solid three-way split for fans of raw and old-school black metal. Nothing here is overly complicated or polished, and that is exactly what makes the release work.
