HESSIAN / GOMOLD - BLASPHEMOUS RITUAL IN THE UNHOLY UNDERWORLD...

Country: USA / Hungary
Year: 2025
Label: Murder Records / Southern Soundclash Records

This is the kind of tape that sounds better when it is dirty. ''Blasphemous Ritual In The Unholy Underworld...'' brings together HESSIAN from the USA and GOMOLD from Hungary for just over 16 minutes of raw black metal, noise and ugly underground atmosphere. Four tracks in total, two from each band, and there is not much here that could be called clean or polished. HESSIAN open the split tape with “Ritual 1” and “Ritual 2.” The first track starts things in a very rough way, with guitars, effects and drums creating a cold and messy sound. It feels less like a normal black metal song and more like something recorded during a ritual that should have stayed underground. The second track follows the same path, with the noise becoming an even bigger part of the music. Then GOMOLD take over with “A Halál Szele” and “A Fekete Kör.” Their side is more clearly rooted in black metal, but the production is still dirty and rough. The guitars have a nasty sound, the vocals sit deep in the mix and the drums keep everything moving without making the recording sound too clean. What works here is that both bands fit together very well. HESSIAN bring more noise and strange sounds, while GOMOLD give the split a more recognizable black metal side. Neither band sounds out of place. And thankfully, this is not a long release. Sixteen minutes is enough. You get the noise, the riffs, the ugly production and then it is over before it starts getting repetitive. This is not a tape for someone looking for a polished black metal production or perfect songwriting. It is rough, dirty and made for the underground. The cassette format fits it perfectly, especially with only 50 hand-numbered copies. ''Blasphemous Ritual In The Unholy Underworld...'' is a short and nasty split that does exactly what it needs to do. Raw black metal in your face!
