GAM is a four-piece band hailing from Sweden. They began their musical journey back in 2011 under the name "Vulture," but later rebranded to GAM. Having already released their debut album ''Crowned and Reborn'' in 2019, they are now back with a brand-new EP titled ''Iron Gauntlet'', officially set for release on August 1st. Andreas was kind enough to send us an advance copy of their new work on a "burned" CD-R, allowing us to be among the first to hear it. The ''Iron Gauntlet'' EP consists of four tracks:
1. ''In the Absence of Light''
2. ''Wounds of God''
3. ''Begging for the Whip''
4. ''Worship and Obey''
These compositions deliver a dark blend of blackened death metal with strong death-doom influences, particularly evident in ''Begging for the Whip''. The sound evokes the early days of the death/doom metal scene, reminiscent of legends like Asphyx and Autopsy. Musically, the EP is a storm of sick, dissonant black metal riffs intertwined with brutal death metal growls. The powerful rhythm section makes the songs feel like a black/death metal freight train heading straight at you. The drummer’s performance is chaotic and abyssal, filled with relentless blast beats and fast double-bass drumming.The guitars are tuned low and heavy, delivering cold, inspired black metal passages, while the bass lines are crushingly deep-powerful enough to make your speakers tremble. All of this is wrapped in raw, brutal death metal vocals that complete the sonic assault. The production is impressively clear and strong, allowing every instrument to be heard with clarity, without losing the raw energy the genre demands.You can also check out an insightful interview we did with the band HERE.
