In my hands I hold the second demo of BEGRAVET I SKOGEN (“Buried in the Forest” in English!), which was released by the mighty Murder Records (hail my necro-brother Danihell!!!) this past December, in 2025. BEGRAVET I SKOGEN is a one-man band formed by Sarkofag, who plays all the instruments himself! After his first demo, released in 2024, Sarkofag returns with his second demo, which came out on cassette in only 50 copies! This demo contains two tracks (one on each side). The first side features “Lengter Etter Lange Vinternetter” (“Longing for Long Winter Nights,” if I’m not mistaken), with a duration of 13 minutes. The song begins with an atmospheric, depressive, and sick piano melody, while in the background you can hear the frozen wind and you already start to feel the cold coming out of your speakers. A slow-paced, dark track with very heavy guitars in doom rhythms. Brutal vocals, eerie and misanthropic. Thirteen minutes of torturous and otherworldly music! The second side includes “Våre Tapte Oppdagere Har Dødd” (“Our Lost Explorers Have Died”). Another long composition, sixteen minutes this time, which will transport you to snow-white landscapes covered in ice and to lost forests in the heart of the Norwegian winter, where survival would be nearly impossible… Slow, heavy, crushing and at the same time so dark and black. You truly feel as if you are walking through those deserted and frozen Norwegian mountains, covered in cold snow, struggling with every step. Especially in this track, the vocals delivered by Sarkofag sound like the wild wind tearing everything apart as it passes. The song closes in the same way the A side of the cassette opens, with the piano producing mournful sounds. A very beautiful ending, I would say. Perhaps these songs are a tribute to the lost explorers who perished. The BEGRAVET I SKOGEN demo is a very interesting release, one that requires dedication. You must surrender to its sounds and allow it to carry you on this black journey.
