ANTIKULT - AND THEN CAME THE PLAGUE
Country: Italy
Year: 2020
Label: Murder Records
WOW!!! What kind of deranged monstrosity do we have here??? ANTIKULT!!! Yes, ANTIKULT!!! The lunatics from Italy, have crawled out of whatever radioactive jazz-infested basement they inhabit to deliver one of the most twisted, psychotic Jazzcore assaults you’ll ever experience. And when I say Jazzcore, I don’t mean “jazzy metal” or “progressive grind”, Nope! I mean pure Jazzcore chaos!!! The kind of sound where Grindcore smashes headfirst into Jazz, explodes on impact, and then mutates into something even more disgusting and fascinating. And just when you think you’ve figured out what’s happening, they throw in these weird funk pulses from out of nowhere, like tiny brainworms gnawing at your sanity. I first got introduced to these maniacs when my nero-brother Danihell Slaughter sent me their album on CD ''Dioxin No Natsu'' (review HERE). That record didn’t just impress me, it wrecked me. It knocked the air out of my lungs, tore off half my face, and left me staring at my speakers in disbelief. So, what we've got here, is the cassette with the title ''And Then Came The Plague'', released in 2020 via the mighty Murder Records, limited edition to 150 copies only!!! This cassette edition comes loaded with the 11 original tracks from ''Dioxin No Natsu'', plus three exclusive cuts (NOISES!!!!) that appear ONLY on this Murder Records version: “Steel In My Teeth,” “The Happiness Gone,” and “Teratogenic 76.” If you want these songs, this cassette is your only gateway!! What you get is 14 tracks of absolute madness and chaos!!!The guitars shred at speeds and angles that defy basic physics. The bass snarls underneath everything like it wants to escape the recording and attack you in real life. And the vocals… the vocals are feral!! A mix of psychotic screams, guttural spasms, and deranged spoken-word and the drums sound like an octopus having a panic attack....hahahaha!!!! Listening to this album is not fun in the traditional sense. It’s not meant to be. It’s meant to hurt you a little bit... It gives you stomach cramps, migraines, and a slight sense of existential dread as you try to process the impossible rhythmic twists and fractured jazz breakdowns. This release is extreme. And not "extreme" the way mainstream metal tries to be. I mean truly extreme!! The kind only the underground can produce. This is not for the casual listeners, not for weekend metalheads and of course not for people who think they “like weird & obscure music.” This is only for the maniacs.
