My necro-brother Danihell Slaughter, the owner of the mighty Murder Records, had the kindness to send me this release from ANTIKULT. They are a Grindcore band hailing from Milan, Italy. ''Dioxin No Natsu'' is their debut album, released in 2019 via Red Truth Records. The album contains 11 songs featuring a fiercely energetic and innovative blend of old-school Grindcore, Crust Punk, and complex Jazz tempos. Yes, you read that correctly-Jazz rhythms!! Hahaha, and I must say that the songs are absolutely crazy!!! I would call it more like Jazzcore, and what stands out the most about ''Dioxin No Natsu'' is how effortlessly ANTIKULT combines the raw, chaotic energy of Grindcore with the intricate, off-kilter rhythms of jazz. This unpredictable synergy results in a sound that is both abrasive and engaging, drawing listeners in with its intensity while keeping them on their toes with its unpredictable time signatures and tempo shifts. The saxophone, often used as a tool for experimentalism in genres like jazz and noise, here perfectly complements the blistering Grindcore riffs, providing a unique texture to the music that you won’t find in most extreme metal bands. The album's title, ''Dioxin No Natsu'', references the infamous dioxin accident at a factory near Milan in 1976, tying the music to a tragic historical event. This makes the album not only a chaotic musical Grindcore experience but also a thoughtful commentary on the real-world consequences of environmental disasters. ''Dioxin No Natsu'' was recorded during the winter of 2018-2019 at Korova Sounds in Zurich (CH) and Jet 52 Cave in Milan (IT) by Alex Bescape with Aubert Leroux. I also really enjoyed the last song, "Too Grind to Fuck," which is a special "version" (cover??) of the classic punk song "Too Drunk to Fuck" by Dead Kennedys! If you are a fan of Grindcore with Jazzy elements and love bizarre or experimental stuff, then ''Dioxin No Natsu'' is for you!
