Interview with ABELOTH

!!!HEAVY/SPEED METAL FROM CHILE!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about ABELOTH (Members, Starting Year etc).
At the beginning the band was formed in 2020. With Marcelo González (vocals), Marco Muñoz and Javier González (guitars), José Fuentes (drums, bass and voice). In 2021 Javier Gómez joined as a drummer.

In 2022 you released your EP ''Abeloth''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
People reception has been good, they really enjoyed the EP, they share our songs on social media. In general they give us a lot of support especially the ones who are more involved with that type of music. Even Independent media here in Santiago consider us as a in the best published works during 2021.

Label or DIY and why?
For now we are not working with any label. When we released out first EP "Abeloth" we had a lot of help from a dear fan that made all the work to produce and made the tapes for us.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
If we had the chance to release our music in all formats we will, we known that metal fans buy a lot of this material in order to support bands l, and we notice that when our EP was spread very quickly on our tape version. In the other hand digital platforms are very useful when you want to share our work because it's faster and it's easier to know the statistics of our audience who listen us. Every media that get music closer to people is well recibes.

Your music style is Heavy /Speed Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Talking about our main compositors we have got the inspiration from big exponents such as Helloween, Nightwish, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica even though we always wanted to have our own scenes.

Which things do you think a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your Band?
Speaking of surviving through the time, the sacrifice for and emergent band it's time and resources the budget to create material in order to compete with the others bands that aspire to the best. Even though as in all group sometimes some conflicts arise that as a band we must solve, like ego, what is a bad thing that needs to be fixed and worked every day.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
We believed that our ideal show will be something with more scenery that we have today, something with more curtains in our cabinets with personalized patches in our drums, but we were experimented good shows as.

Which attributes, do you think, that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
We think that the best way to be original and creative is making music and not compare our music with anyone else, just trying to pass and show whats in our mind through the instruments. As well as we mentioned before the bands that inspired us help a lot in that way, we don't want to be a copy or a version with different name. Abeloth born mostly by the love that we have on music and heavy metal.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
As we said previously digital platforms make the musicians work arrive easily to the audience and the receiving of feedback all the time, that motives us to keep creating and not to leave the essence of the classic formats as CD, tape, vinyl. We believe that platforms help us enormously to share our music.

Do you see any differences between Chilean Metal Market & EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
The market of metal here in Chile is not wider as we would like to, even so there is a lot of people supporting the underground metal scene and they support us by going to the events , buying our stuffs. We hope that along the years this keeps growing more an more.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Chile (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
As we know the European metal market is quite good,in fact we also know that many Chilean bands have decided to have a try there in the old continent. With a big amount of labels ,producers and recording studios that are interested in metal more than we actually have in Chile today.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Being honest we just know a little of these scene, we know that it was a movement that was developed among the 80's decade in Greece and the most important exponents belong to black, trash and heavy metal. We didn't know more about it but we would love to learn more about it.

The last 2 years worldwide we have faced many dark, strange & new situations with our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
The lockdown due to COVID-19 gives us a lot of time to specify our ideas that we had for so long, surprisingly this was favorable for us because we had the opportunity in 2020 and 2021 to prepare our EP as we like , and at the beginning of 2022 release to platforms our work.

What are your future plans?
Our next step is to record a LP and we hope that in the mid of 2023 with at least 10 song , Which is a lot of work to do.

Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work!
