ONSLAUGHT KOMMAND - VISIONS OF BLOOD & GORE

Country: Chile

Year: 2024

Label: TotalDeath Records (Exclusive Edition for the Ossum Merchant 7)

I call myself a Heavy Metaller (although in reality I am not a pure one)... Many times in my life I have ignored awesome albums of other metal genres due to my obsessive tendency to mostly choose heavy metal stuff. Fortunately, the universe always regulates this dysfunction and sends people on my way who help me somehow unstick that pointless stubborness from my mind and open my musical horizons.

That happened once again some months ago. I coincidentally met a band from Chile somewhere in Mexico, as they went there in order to play live in two concerts. After a pleasant smalltalk with them I ended up being curious about what kind of music these nice guys create. Their material flied over the Atlantic Ocean and passed from one Metalhead to another, until it finally reached my hands. That oldschool way of delivery made it even more precious for me, as the modern, impersonal way of clicking on an item on a Website in the Internet and get it lacks the "romanticism" of the old eras. The band that I am talking about is ONSLAUGHT KOMMAND.

Their music style is a mix of Death Metal, Black Metal and Grindcore and according to a part on their interview for FDOM "a strong part of their inspiration comes from the Goregrind of the late 80s and early 90s."

The CD that I have on my hands is an exclusive edition for the Ossum Merchant 7 released by TotalDeath Records, an Underground Death/Black Metal Label from Mexico. The very first song "Old Death Ripper" sounds like a clear statement on my ears:... "WE ARE HERE JUST TO PLAY MUSIC AND FUCK IT ALL...WITHOUT FOREPLAY, WITHOUT LUBRICANT!"... It straightforwardly gets to the point and summons me to enter a state of orgiastic frenzy at start and end up with relentless headbanging. The song's simple structure and brutality make it the perfect song for a live show and, potentially, the best recipe for departing at the end of the show with uncountable bruises and a broken tooth on the hand because of the enthusiasm and high emotional load that the song could cause to the audience. By far my favorite song of the CD...The second song "Headless" is of lower tempo, but still sounds cruel and filthy like a boiling septic tank preparing to explode due to the sick growling vocals. The explosion finally comes with "Visions of Blood and Gore", which is a faster, full of energy track, brutal and raw. I think that this could be considered the CD's highlight track by the majority of its listeners. The CD ends with a Pungent Stench cover "Dead Body Love" which clearly shows the influence of this band on Onslaught Kommand's music. I liked the guitar enrichments on the cover version, they are totally to the point and filled the song in a way that sounded good to my ears. Great cover!!! Although the lyrics of the songs have to do mainly with death, I must admit that listening to this music made me feel more alive than ever. A descriptive song like Headless could be an inspiration for the creation of an awesome splatter music video as well!

The same CD also includes 2 insane songs, "Third World Stoning" and "Backyard of Corpses", from "Malignancy Promo" CD Promo and gave me an idea of what their full-length album Malignancy is about. Released by Godz ov War Productions in 2024, in CD and in MC with an "extra-sick" cover art by Brian Paulin that perfectly matches with the morbidity of the 14 tracks.

To make a long story short, a gifted drummer, two brutal guitars and an aggressively-growling vocalist with his bass have musically matched perfectly each other, these are Onslaught Kommand! And I definitely can say that even as a "Heavy-Metaller" who is used to completely different sounds, I really enjoyed the music of Onslaught Kommand that finally triggered me to start digging deeper in this specific scene, as I found out that my "rotten" side gains total satisfaction through this music genre.

The metal scene in Chile never stops catching our attention, it actually confirms my theory that it is one of the truest & the hottest worldwide. I wish that I will visit Chile very soon and experience there live the metal madness.
