MORTAL TERROR - FILTHY OLD THRASH
Country: Germany
Year: 2026
Label: Independent Release
Some bands spend years trying to follow new trends. Others simply plug in their guitars, turn up the volume, and do what they have always loved. German thrash veterans MORTAL TERROR belong to the second group, and their new album, ''Filthy Old Thrash'', makes that clear from the very beginning. Released in June 2026, the band's seventh full-length album also marks 40 years since their early days in the underground. And honestly, the title says it all. This is raw, fast, filth thrash metal with no interest in sounding modern just for the sake of it. The album opens with “Ghosts From The Past,” a short intro that sets the mood before “1986-6-6” kicks in. From there, MORTAL TERROR take us straight into a world of sharp guitar riffs, pounding drums, angry vocals, and plenty of old-school attitude. There is no long wait for the good stuff. The band gets down to business, and they do it with the confidence of musicians who have been playing this kind of music for decades. The title track is one of the album's strongest moments. Its like a metallic fist hits you right in your face!!! The riffs are direct, the pace is lively, and the whole thing feels like it belongs in a small, sweaty club with a crowd going wild in front of the stage. You can feel the spirit of classic German thrash here, with the speed and aggression that made bands like SODOM, DESTRUCTION, and KREATOR such important names in the scene. Killer song!! But MORTAL TERROR are not only about speed. There is enough variety throughout the record to keep things moving. “I Come For Everyone” brings a memorable chorus, while “Cold, Ugly And Rotten” delivers another heavy dose of dirty riffs and pure aggression. “Under Attack” pushes forward with a strong rhythm and some nice changes in pace, and “Here Is Some Speed” does exactly what its title promises. No surprises there, but sometimes you really don't need any. The closing track, “We Own This Night,” is another solid example of what the band does best. The guitars bring plenty of energy, the rhythm section keeps everything moving, and the song leaves the album on a strong note. There is a real sense of fun here, too. This is music made by people who clearly enjoy playing loud, fast, and heavy. One of the best things about ''Filthy Old Thrash'' is its sound. The production is rough around the edges but still powerful enough to let the instruments do their job. It doesn't feel overly polished or lifeless, and that works in the album's favor. You can almost picture the band playing these songs in a rehearsal room, with the amps turned up and nobody worrying about making everything sound perfect. The vocals are aggressive, the guitars have plenty of bite, and the drums give the songs the punch they need. MORTAL TERROR know exactly what they want to do, and they do it without trying to be something they are not. There is no need for fancy tricks or unnecessary changes when the basic ingredients are this strong. The band brings speed, aggression, solid playing, and a genuine love for the old-school filthy thrash Metal sound. After four decades in the underground, MORTAL TERROR have every reason to be proud of ''Filthy Old Thrash''. It may not change the history of thrash metal, and it doesn't need to. This is an honest record that stays close to its roots while showing that the band still has plenty of fire left in the tank.''Filthy Old Thrash'' is a solid, energetic release from a band that has stayed true to its roots. Raw & filth thrashing sound, strong performances, and genuine underground spirit make it well worth checking out. Old-school thrash is alive and well, and MORTAL TERROR are still here to prove it. If you want to learn more about MORTAL TERROR be sure to check HERE a very interesting interview that we had with Dirk Wieland (Hail Dirk!!!) So, boys & girls, if you grew up with the classic thrash Metal records of the '80s, or if you simply enjoy your metal fast, rough, and free of unnecessary polish, this album deserves a spin. Turn it up, give it a chance, and let the riffs do the talking.
