Interview with THE EVILNESS

Tell us a few things about THE EVILNESS (Members, Starting Year etc).
The Evilness was forged in 2017 when I founded the band alongside Hellmaniac on drums, later recruiting Blasphemer on bass to complete the original lineup with Nmorbyhell handling guitars and vocals. Driven by the fierce desire to spread the black flame of ancient metal and honor the old legions of the underground, steel became our ultimate form of expression, aligning the unholy power trident of the horde.However, the band’s path was deeply marked by real tragedy and bloodshed in 2020, our bassist Blasphemer was murdered, forcing The Evilness into a dark hiatus under an environment of violence, hatred, and hostility. In 2022, the flame was reignited as we resumed rehearsals with Tanin'iver on drums and Mutant Hunter on bass. Yet, the dangerous aftermath and lingering threats surrounding our former bassist's murder forced Mutant Hunter to step down. Following his departure in August of that same year, Hellfire Commander joined on bass to complete the current lineup.Rising above the chaos and hostile surroundings, we channeled all that dark energy into our work. The current lineup behind our latest release, Summoning The Evilness, stands strong with Nmorbyhell on guitars and vocals, Tanin'iver on drums, and Hellfire Commander on bass. We stay true to our gloomy roots through fast, raw, and razor-sharp riffs guided by the dark legacy of the old masters of metal. Through the chaos and violence of existence, the malevolent energy we channel when seizing our instruments and the absolute devotion to the black art make every sacrifice worth it, unleashing ruthless sonic fury while keeping the black flame of evil metal burning high.
Your song ''Hell Be With Us'' is a classic Thrash/Black Metal track. How many songs you have till now ?
Right now, we officially have 6 recorded tracks included on our EP. We also have several unreleased songs that will be recorded for our upcoming full-length album.
Label or DIY and why?
We are currently working with Hell Force Records, who will be releasing our EP Summoning the Evilness on pro-tape format. After dealing with delays and broken promises from a previous label, we cut ties and were looking for a serious partner to keep the physical underground spirit alive. We are thrilled to team up with Hell Force Records to bring this tape release to all the true metal maniacs out there!
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Physical formats reign unholy. There's a ritual to holding the artwork, reading the lyrics, and feeling the music as a tangible force. Digital is essential for connecting with maniacs worldwide, but a physical release is where the true underground spirit stays alive.
Your music style is Thrash/Black Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Our main influences come from Heavy, Speed, Thrash, and both First and Second Wave Black Metal. We grew up on bands like Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Running Wild, Venom, Hellhammer, Slayer, Dissection, and Cranium, 80s German thrash like Exumer, Destruction, Poison, Sodom, Minotaur and Vectom, along with bands like Urn, Nifelheim, Nocturnal, and Desaster. We also carry the raw energy of South American cults like Sepultura, Sarcófago, Pentagram, Atomic Aggressor, Mystifier, Masacre, and Vulcano.
Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
To succeed, a band must sacrifice time, money, and personal comfort, balancing family life with underground metal takes relentless discipline. We’ve sacrificed plenty through tragedy and real danger. Thieves broke into our rehearsal space and stole all our gear. Then, after our former bassist was murdered, the musician who stepped up to replace him witnessed the crime and began receiving direct threats from those killers. To make matters worse, a label failed us after we’d announced a release, making us let down our metal brothers and maniacs and delay our EP. In short, sacrificing peace, stability, and resources is the price to keep a vision alive. It’s been brutally tough, but in metal, adversity only brews the iron will to stand strong and keep fighting.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
Our ideal live show takes place on a massive outdoor stage before a sea of maniacs, completely surrendered to the sound, headbanging with fists in the air and unleashing a truly diabolical vibe.We’ve experienced bursts of that intense energy before, but we always strive to bring that total chaos every time we take the stage.
What attributes do you think that a new Thrash/Black Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Today, almost everything in metal feels already written, so it's not about reinventing the wheel. The key is balancing old-school roots with fresh ideas, honoring that raw essence that made us the metal maniacs we are today, without plain copycatting.
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Thrash/Black Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Digital platforms are a great tool for global reach and discovering new bands. However, the ideal way to promote our work is a mix: using digital platforms to break geographical barriers while focusing on raw live shows, word of mouth, and physical releases.
Do you see any differences between the Colombian Metal Market & the EU Metal Market (Labels, Bands, Fans etc)?
While Colombia has a few well organized labels, the scene mostly runs on raw DIY effort, which gives our music a distinct, fierce sound compared to the structured EU market.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Colombia (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
The new underground metal scene in Colombia is alive, thriving, and constantly pushing boundaries. We have a powerful mix of legendary veterans like Masacre, Reencarnación, Witchtrap, Abaddon, and Revenge just to name a few of the many icons who built this foundation who have been keeping the flame alive for decades, alongside an exciting wave of new bands emerging with fresh, killer energy. Local clubs, underground venues, and bars play a massive role here, they really open their doors to support up and coming bands when they’re just starting out. As I mentioned before, the backbone of our scene is purely DIY effort. Information spreads organically through local printed zines and webzines where gigs, releases, and news are shared directly within the community. It’s a true grassroots movement, and it’s growing bigger and stronger every single day.
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Of course! The Hellenic scene is legendary from black metal pioneers like Rotting Christ, Necromantia, and Varathron, to the heavy metal of Gladiator, and the relentless thrash metal of Suicidal Angels, Greece has a unique, powerful, and historical scene.
What are your future plans?
Right now, we are focused on promoting our upcoming material and finding a label to release it in physical formats. We're fully open to label offers, booking gigs, and taking our music to as many stages as possible before dropping our full-length album.
