Interview with ROADRASH

!!!CANADIAN SPEED METAL!!!

We had a conversation with ROADRASH.Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
1. Tell us a few things about ROADRASH (Members, Starting Year etc).

The four speed metal bastards currently consist of HAMMER, BARE BONES, BURN & GUERREIROS. The Hammer kicked things off back in 2014 & once Bare Bones was in place the band switched into OVERDRIVE

2. You have recently released your EP ''Roadrash''. What is the Feedback from your audience as well as from the Press?

So far we’ve had an extremely good reception to it. We make this shit for hard pipe hittin’ speed metal maniaxxx & if we’re breakin’ their necks - we know we’re doing a good job.3. Label or DIY and why?

Up until this EP we’ve mostly been doing the DIY route. We self released our first album on CD, tape & LP (100 of each) & our first 7 inch “Accelerator”. DIY is cool because you have total control but if you wanna gear up on promotion & financial help a label can really help give you a boost. Cheers to our guys at Metal Assault Records!

4. Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?

All have their benefits! We were surprised at how fast we sold out of CDs. Personally we’re vinyl collectors & who doesn’t love a greasy cassette to get a full album at a low cost?5. Your music style is Speed Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)

The Canadian & Belgian speed metal wave in the 80’s probably shines through the most in our music. Bands like Exciter, Razor, Acid & Warhead influence us so hard. It was that perfect blend of fast hard hitting metal but also the manic “zero fucks given” punk charge we love. Also personal influences of Motörhead, ZZ Top & AC/DC definitely helped us understand the power of an infectious hook.

6. Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?

You either live it or you don’t. If your personal life can’t keep up then you can’t either. We’ve given up jobs, women, you name it. All in the name of rock n’ roll!7. Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?

If the crowd is hot, the beer is cold & there’s lots of shit to jump on. We’re a very active live band. You bring the heat & we’ll bring the thunder. We’ve definitely played our share of electric shows & we plan on things only getting better!

8. Which attributes, do you think, that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?

Be catchy, be interesting. So many of these “NWOTHM” bands bring absolutely nothing new to the table. Recycled riffs, recycled clothes, fuckin’ SNOOZE FEST. I wanna see some action, I wanna see someone from another fucking planet on stage. Anyone can wear a t-shirt on stage & play Judas Priest riffs backwards. Get street tough & let it bleed into your riffs & lyrics.9. Do you believe that Bandcamp and other Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?

There are so many incredible platforms Bandcamp, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook etc that all help. I don’t think there is a best route but being extremely active on these formats will 100% help boost you as a band & let people know who the hell you are.

10. Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Canada (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)

The bands in Canada are incredible right now. Zines & Clubs on the other hand are extremely few & far in between. Thankfully the dive bars let underground music thrive here. While I have the outlet I’m gonna shoutout VILLAIN, RIOT CITY, TRAVELER, HROM, LUNATTACK, BLOODSPORT, LÜGER, IMMORTAL FORCE, THE CADAVOR DOG, SPELL, SANDSTORM, FREEWAYS, METALIAN, BLIX who are all making GREASY heavy metal of all kinds in Canadaland.11. Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?

We don’t! Anyone from Greece wanna see the Roadrash boys over there? Shoot us an email & we’ll get our asses on the first plane out! Show us what it’s all about & WE WILL ROCK YOU!

12. What are your future plans?

In the words of Status Quo - Rockin’ all over the world! 2nd album is being written, more greasy stuff comin’ your way!

13. Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours

Stay clean!
