Interview with DISGORGED FOETUS

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Hi Bro, thank you to keep some space in FDM zine for us !

Tell us a few things about DISGORGED FOETUS (Members, Starting Year etc).
We started the rehearsals (Dams and Nono), we didn't think to have such a great support of this magnificent UnderGrind & Gore scene. then Dav replaced Nono to join the adventure in 2002 and embed the band a little more in this terribly rich universe with sincere friends. then Jo came to embellish this end of first life for the band before to stop in 2006. when in 2017 a tribute CD “born in GORE” marked by the appearance of 27 bands from all over the world surfaced, the_foetus had to rise from its ashes to continue to destroy with vomit, purulent entrails dripping with maggot-infected oozes, forced masochistic enjoyment and spread more and more decomposed bodies after listening to its music. the_foetus is back on duty and invites Kevin and Yann to this sound butchery act II to devastate everything again on his way. in 2019, Dav and Jo come back in the band for a reunion gig and the deep apocalyptical sound is back in place with new songs as well as some 20 years old ones. in 2022, the brutal magic of a duo drum + a unique ultra heavy and powerful sound overcomes everyone and crushes all the ears that had survived until now. with the new opus the_foetus puts back all the foundations of an old school DEATH GORE GRIND very devastating and unhealthy.

You have recently released your album ''Obscene Utter GORE Annihilation''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
For now around 300 copies sent to the underground world (fans & labels). old school fans will love this release because, as I can read on the “comments sections”, they find the old spirit from our oldest releases and a fresh evolution with better & powerfull sound.

How did your cooperation with Crypt Of Dr. Gore Records occur? What do you prefer Label or DIY and why?
To work with Doc GORE, it came naturally to me because we know each other since early 2000 and respect & friendship is the basis of our cooperation. he is a big big fan of the_foetus and it's a special pleasure to work with us on this release. Doc GORE has a very good distribution network and know how to promote the release ; so we are proud to work with a DIY label. Classic label ask for a lot of things to make sure they don't lose too much money (minimum sales, concerts, strong promotion paid by the band sometimes, etc.). with a DIY label like the Crypt it's the good way for us !

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
Yes, there are several anecdotes about the recording days .... ;-) . for example “virgin vulva lips necklace” : we have never worked in rehearsals before the day we recorded the track in studio. I wrote the song 1 year before the studio session and day after day I was thinking about we could ask Nono (first drummer from 1996 to 2001) to do a guest spot on this track. I send track in raw version, he worked on it at home and we called each other to arrange the composition a bit and we decided to play it on the day of the recording in the studio for the first time.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
For the practical side of physical delivery, listening and promotion at our concerts, the CD version is perfect. the cassette format reminds me of when i was young and we used to do a lot of tape trading, so it's sentimental, even though not everyone has a cassette player. the vinyl version is absolute class; i love this format. it's huge to hold in your hand. it's a kind of book where you can scrutinise the smallest details that the artist wanted to include in his work. Digital format is not my favorite, but a lot of people download and listen to the digital tracks / albums, one or 2, perhaps 3 times and we can approach some kind of listeners and try to capture their attention.

Your music style is Grindcore. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Not exactly Grindcore my Friend. I prefer to use Intense Death GORE Grind style. our sound is more heavy and music very less fast than Grindcore bands. Our influences are mainly old Death Grind bands like GUT, AGATHOCLES, REGURGITATE, DEAD INFECTION, old EXHUMED, old NAPALM DEATH, old CARCASS, old GENERAL SURGERY, THE DAY EVERYTHING BECAME NOTHING and many other but always in the old school vains because it's our source of inspiration.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
It all depends on how the group works. by this i mean that all the members must be in phase with the same objective. and there are many possible objectives, with or without sacrifices. Line-up changes, for example, have been made because people had different desires, availabilities and musical orientations, and paths naturally separate. there have been no sacrifices to speak of in DISGORGED FOETUS. it's still a band of local mates (that's the idea that makes us strong and that we've always wanted to keep).

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
A long time ago we already gave a gig with videos taken from horror films in the background throughout our stage performance. This requires a very special organization and it is difficult to set up a structure like that if we are not the ones organizing the show. There was the sound (audio sampler for intro to our songs) and the violent video of quite GORY and violent images. the blend were perfect and it was very disgusting for the public. A wonder !

What attributes do you think that a new Grindcore Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Wouahou ... great question ! I can say to these guys : "never do a simple stuff . be fuckin' creative and be honest with the listeners". Sometimes, I ear primitive sound without soul, without real scene exploration. “sound” release in few hours of reflexion, few hours of work and no real passion for music. I consider that as a big shit. work in 1000% to do better and have your own identity, not a bland copy.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Grindcore Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
Nowadays, music must be found via the digital platforms for sure, but I think the best way is to meet physically everyone at gigs. by speaking, having fun and explain how the intensity on stage could be felt on physical support. yes for sure, we discover a lot of bands via digital platforms but only few of them are stand out from the crowd and only the best bands will perform gigs a day. The sound on platforms is not the best that the band hope. many people listen to music on their iphone and judge it ! it's not the way to have the right to give an objective opinion about the music and the work under an album.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in France (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Underground scene in France is more and less active and it depend where you live in France ! north is better I think to discover more bands on stage. There are many metal clubs / bar in the big town and it's not impossible to have a good time in a METAL concert in the middle of the week ;-) Unfortunately, only few webzines are always active and it's hard to keep alive the press on paper, because no more kids / fans buy real magazine like in the golden years '90s (where I come from).

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
I know only very few of them. an one of my favorite is SUICIDAL ANGELS ! But I like too many of them like MORTAL TORMENT, SEPTIC FLESH (their very old stuff of course), DEAD CONGREGATION.

The last 3 years, worldwide in the world, we have faced many dark, strange & new situations in our everyday life (covid, lock-down etc.) Did all of this affect you positively or negatively?
Yes of course. all that shit changed our minds ! but it confirms what I thought about governments : they fuckin' care about us and they want to control us. don't be quiet, refuse and resist ! I'm not the best conspiracy theorist but an elite that owns and interferes with all the country's wealth want to reduce us to total obedience. That's what the last 3 years have officially revealed, what I've been thinking for years.

What are your future plans?
In 2024, we'll release a new mini album and we'll do several gigs in Europe and beyond ;-) . stay tuned to our social network for more infos soon and we'll be proud to meet all fans during a gig.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Yeah, thank you for your time and promote our work. Stay GORE & EXTREME my Friend. Dams & the_foetus.
