Interview with CRITICAL FEAR

!!!THRASH METAL FROM BRAZIL!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.

Tell us a few things about CRITICAL FEAR (Members, Starting Year etc).
In the current formation we have: Perci Moraes (Vocal/Guitar est. 2008), Fernando Freak (Guitar est. 2014), Alexandre Moraes (Drums est. 2022) and Anildo Ravichers (Bass est. 2023) A curiosity: Alexandre Moraes is the son of Perci Moraes.

In 2022 you have released your album ''A Real Danger''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Well, we had a good reception from the thrash metal audience in general, as well as from the punk and hardcore audiences. We managed to blend these three genres together in a single album, and I believe the result was exactly what we wanted.

The cover artwork had a great atmosphere! Tell us a few things about it.
The cover somehow evokes the current society we live in: fear of a new world war, the use of nuclear weapons, and the abuse of power by those who rule the world. Everything we mentioned in the album art is something that, for us, evokes a prophecy that is increasingly close to becoming reality.

And what about the lyrics?
Our lyrics have political and social aspects in our worldview living in a third world country.

What do you prefer, Label or DIY and why?
Currently, we are DIY, but we prefer a label for the visibility it generates for the band.

Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
At a show we did a few years ago in a beach town, a man simply grabbed a surfboard and started surfing through the crowd, crushing everyone's heads. Note: He weighed 160 kilos, so you can imagine what happened to his victims, hahaha.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I really like CDs because I like the feeling of actually supporting a band by buying their material. The feeling of owning something in your hands is completely different from digital media.

Your music style is Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
The band's main inspirations are Nuclear Assault, Assassin, Dark Angel, Kreator, among others.

Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
Every band must sacrifice time and (nowadays more than ever) money. We have sacrificed a lot of time and continue to sacrifice all our strength for the future of the band.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
A medium-sized stage, good production, good equipment, moshing and stage diving everywhere. We've had shows like this before...

What do you think about the rise of AI in music production?
I, Alexandre, detest any trace of AI in metal. The use of artificial intelligence in music is becoming increasingly common, and people don't see how serious this is. Beings will be dominated by this if it continues this way.

What attributes do you think that a new Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Riff Styles, Appearance and Live Performance.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
It's impossible to have a band these days without promoting it on digital platforms, and they help a lot if used well.

From your experience in the music industry, what would you tell to a new Heavy Metal band to avoid or what to do?
Don't waste money, don't waste it on recording a thousand albums if you don't even have your first album released, share the band with dedicated members (if they don't add anything, don't be merciful in leaving them in the band).

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in São Paulo, Brazil (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Here we have several excellent new bands emerging, such as Exkil (Thrash Metal), but we also have other older bands, such as Sadistic Messiah, who have always kept metal alive with us.

What does Metal means to you? And give us 10 metal albums that run in your veins.
Metal for me means freedom. Nothing more to be said. 1. The Secrets of the Black Arts (Dark Funeral), 2. Sworn to the Dark (Watain) 3. Darkness Descends (Dark Angel), 4. Beneath The Remains (Sepultura), 5. Coma of Souls (Kreator). 6. Storm of the Light's Bane (Dissection), 7. Vobiscum Satanas (Dark Funeral), 8. The IVth Crusade (Bolt Thrower), The Ultimate Incantation (Vader), 9. At The Heart of Winter (Immortal), Minas Morgul (Summoning).

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
I know you guys are experts at making high-quality black metal! Lunar Spells and Varathron are good examples.

What are your future plans?
We are planning to continue producing our fast and aggressive Thrash metal and we are also looking to do more shows and more tours like this one in Europe that we will do in September.

Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Well, first of all I would like to thank you guys at FILTHY DOGS OF METAL for the opportunity to do this interview and I would also like to thank everyone who follows us and everyone who may follow us in the future! You guys are amazing! Make Thrash run through your veins like fire!!!
