Interview with VIPER ARMOR

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about VIPER ARMOR (Members, Starting Year etc).
We founded Viper Armor in 2020 with the drummer Mateo Velastegui, both of us previously played in other Black Metal and Thrash Metal bands and we decided to get together and start this project, due to covid restrictions and lock down we had a delay in our plans but finally we have recorded and released our first EP “Capital City Disintegration”.
You have recently released your EP ''Capital City Disintegration''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Well, just 2 weeks ago we published our work on virtual platforms such as Bandcamp and Soundcloud, some friend bands told us that it seemed brutal and the truth was that it had a good reception with some contacts in other countries (via Bandcamp) we have sold some copies in CD and Tape format and we have had very good reviews so far.
Label or DIY and why?
Our current label is Pluteras Recs. located in Quito, is a label that has published a lot of releases by local Extreme Metal bands but we have received offers from a couple of labels for future publications.
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We prefer the CD format, but the Tapes have had a lot of movement on the scene in recent years and we love that format, we live in a globalized world and we believe that it is essential to move our music through digital platforms to have more international reach.
Your music style is Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Our main influences are Sadus, Kreator, Sodom, we love the 80´s and 90´s Thrash Metal style, personally my favorite artists are Mille Petrozza, Rob Cavestany and Darren Travis.
Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?
Mainly time and money I think (even more if you play in other bands) we have also had to sacrifice time with our families, luckily our jobs allow us to work a little more in the band.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
Well, the band is new and the face-to-face concerts are just being re-activated, we haven't had a show as a band yet, but we've been invited several times, answering to the question… the perfect show should be full of beer, noise and a lot of mosh!
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
I believe that digital platforms help metal bands a lot because of the world in which we live, I think that CD, Tape and Vinyl formats should always be released but they should go hand in hand with digital publications to get more audience and diffusion.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Ecuador (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
The underground scene in Ecuador is quite extensive, there are many really good new bands with amazing material, there are old bands that have released new things, the record labels are growing, there is a lot of support from part of the audience too, but we still have a lot to learn, to grow and advance.
Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Well, the bands that I have heard the most from the Hellenic scene are Rotting Christ and Varathron, Septicflesh also seems to me an excellent musical option but I am interested in discovering more bands from the underground scene, if you recommend some I would be very grateful ...
What are your future plans?
Our plans for the future are to release an album in 2022, achieve a greater international reach and support the bands, distros and portals that supported us from the beginning and that continue to support us ... the idea is to grow as a community and not just as artist.
