Interview with MOTORASTOLA

!!!WORKING CLASS METAL FROM SPAIN!!!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about MOTORASTOLA (Members, Starting Year etc).
We started in 2016, Astola: Guitar, vocals; and Dabuten: Bass. We've been changing drummers since then (something out of Spinal Tap), but now we're happy with Mateu. The idea of the band was to make a Metal band formed by punks, and try to bring Heavy Metal to the working class. The name of the band resembles the ego of Astola. In 2018 we had our first EP and we've problems to record this LP in 2020 because of the pandemic, but finally its out!

You have recently released your album ''Working Class Metal''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
Our audience can't be taken seriously because they're mostly drunk polytoxicomaniacs, the only press we know is the hydraulic one from the YouTube channel of the eastern guys. Great metal intro!!

Label or DIY and why?
We try to be, or we are forced to, DIY, but this time for the vinyl we count with 3 great underground labels: Discos Mecagoendios, Mata la Musica Records and No Thanks Records. We come from the punk scene, so we are used to doing things by ourselves (and losing money), but, honestly, we have debts and now we want some cash hahahaha.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
We are romantic morons, so, we prefer vinyl! We like to have our collection in physical form, an expensive and uncomfortable way of listening to music? Yes. So, we are aware that digital will spread our music to more people, so we are not closing doors to the XXI century brother!!

Your music style is Heavy/Speed Metal. Which are your main influences (Favorite Artists / Bands etc.)
Most of us come from hardcore punk, we consider ourselves metalpunks, but for this album we've been very influenced by classic bands like: Tank, Diamond Head, Gang Green, Angel Witch, Crucifixion, Venom, Riot, Warfare... Do we really need to name Motorhead? Other modern influences would be Inepsy, Midnight, Tiger Junkies, Burning Leather...

Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?
We don't understand a shit about success... We can't say anything... Maybe a goat in a pentagram?? But the things you have to sacrifice for a band to function to the minimum (releasing albums and playing live) is your mental health and, maybe, your wallet. In a band you deal with problems that will make you wonder why the fuck are you still playing. And then you remember that rock n roll is what gives your life a freaking meaning and yeah, you keep rockin' like a proud idiot! As a band we have sacrificed hours of sleep (like giving a show, driving for hours, and then going to work without sleeping), and money in absurd lawsuits because of our drinking problems after shows (yeah, we've been in a court as a band). So yeah, this band has negative effects on our life, but that’s the way I like it baby.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
The ideal live show comes to you, you don’t look for it. Our favorite experience was in Murcia (Spain), where motorbikes raced around us and the audience, in a cloud of dust and beer... Also, every time we can, we enter the venues by motorbike. We love motorcycles and fuck, every show that involves motorbikes, its a great show!!

Which attributes, do you think, that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
We are not the ones to talk about this, because we are cliche as fuck. If you try too hard to be unique... You are damned to make shitty music. What new bands need is: The attitude, most new bands fail considerably in having attitude, you are a band, you play live, you interact with others. Not everything is music... Behind the music there has to be some vatos that know how to kick ass. We wanna bring back negative stereotypes to the metal community, to bring back those alcoholic, violent assholes that metalheads used to be, and not the nerdy incels that your parents are not scared of.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
The question is not if they help, the question is if there’s other option... Only a few bands can have the privilege to gain popularity without publishing their music on digital platforms. If you want to be heard, why would you not use all the ways you can? You know, we hate Spotify, we don’t use it, we're old school, but fuck, if someone wants to hear your music and he wants that way, why would you force them to make other way? We totally understand that most people don’t wanna earn money on expensive turntables and vinyls you have to manually operate (Jesus Christ, who would?) Of all those new platforms, we prefer bandcamp. But the real deal of the internet and music will always  be p2p sharing programs, we believe in sharing music freely, so you can do whatever you want with our music.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Spain (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
We highly recommend our friends No Sanctuary from Iruña, but a lot of bands like: Mean Machine, Black Bomber, Witchtower, Tümba, Maniac, Wasteland Riders, Tony Galento, Hell Division, Puro Odio... We would like to recommend other bands outside the metal scene: Tubot, Hard and Cheap, Cuero, Ttun Ttun Brigade, Black Bullet, Colgate Total, Ballard,

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
We were going to search on google "best underground Hellenic Metal", but fuck it, we don’t know absolutely nothing about the Hellenic Scene. Sorry
🙂

What are your future plans?
Taking down western civilization, try our hardest to end with human race, and start creating a socialist society on the post-apocalyptic ruins of the old world. I choose Mad Max's Ford Falcon to rule the wasteland! If this fails: We would like to play live as much as we can to promote this album, and when the situation changes, go on tour through Europe. We love to play live and drive through all the roads we can.

Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Remember kids, keep Heavy Metal dangerous and filthy, don't do drugs (give em to us), drive fast and play our music loud!!!
