!!!RAW & EVIL BLACK/THRASH METAL FROM GREECE!!!
We had a conversation with Necrobaphometh (Vocals & Bass). Enjoy!
Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about BLASFEMATOR (Members, Starting Year etc).
Greetings to all the true underground freaks! The band was created back in 2018 in the city of Ioannina in Greece under the name Goatslaught, during the recording process of our first release all members quit so I was searching for a drummer and a guitarist until 2022 when the band was revived again under the name Blasfemator with Infernal Sadomator on guitars and Hemophiliak Cadaverik Warmaster on the drums. Through the years we all relocated to Athens and decided to make our first release. Sadly after that our guitarist left the band and the drummer had to return to his hometown due to personal obligations, so I am once again in search of possessed maniacs to continue the madness.
You have recently released your split EP with SEPULCRAL '' Bestial Rites Of Morbid Lust ''. What is the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
All the people who listened to our split said that it felt really old, raw and unique and that's exactly the sound we are aiming for, so for that matter I am completely satisfied with the feedback from the underground listeners. To be honest I don't really care what the mainstream press has to say about the music of Blasfemator. Reviews of unknown bands in zines are cool but scoring points in magazines is not something that I'm interested of.
The cover artwork has a sick atmosphere! Tell us a few things about it.
The artwork is a gift from Henrique Antichrist, a great friend from Brazil (Infernal Attack are eternal brothers) It was drawn back in 2006 by a guy who was a friend of Antichrist. I was immediately amazed by the simplicity of it, demo tapes with pencil on paper covers are totally my kind of thing. There is not a specific concept behind this artwork as it was not done on demand many years ago, but I liked that it involved gore and nudity, these two still shock people pretty much haha! Also loved the fetus hanging from a hook, I saw it like a pro choice thing so it might as well get some Christians and conservatives really angry.
And what about the lyrics?
Our lyrics are focused on luciferianism, Satan is represented as the embodiment of rebellion, knowledge and freedom, not and actual being. I also take great inspection when I'm writing the lyrics from the Greek dark folklore that I was raised with. Stories that I've heard or read about metaphysical deities lurking in the shadows.
How did your cooperation with Murder Records occur? What do you prefer, Label or DIY and why?
I started my own DIY label many years ago called PoserSlay Noise but unfortunately I was not able to make enough releases due to financial problems. Living in Greece with such a fucked up economy makes it even more difficult so I am forced to make my releases through other labels I don't remember how I got to know Murder Records but when I checked their roaster and overall presentation I was really impressed and vise versa, so we made a pact really fast.
Is there any funny or weird story from the recordings or from your live shows that you would like to share with us?
There were some really weird stuff going on during the recordings for the demo Night Of Desecration, after the drums were recorded both members would quit, and afterwards every time we tried to record something the power would go off and stuff, and the final day during the vocals rec which was the last thing to do, a furious storm broke out which again shut the power down and we almost lost all the recordings.
Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I only like tapes and vinyl, they have a totally different and unique sound. And it also involves the whole ritual kind of thing which makes you live the experience to the fullest.
Your music style is Black/Thrash Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
I would say that the biggest influences for Blasfemator are coming from the South American scene with bands like Sarcofago, Vulcano, Sextrash, Death Yell, Anal Vomit, Kulto Maldito And some European bands like early Sodom, Nifelheim and Deathhammer.
Which things do you think a band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?
I'm not looking for any kind of success through this band, I am only dedicated to the true underground and the music itself. If someone thinks it's a success to profit from true metal I'd tell him to go get an actual job.
Describe your ideal live show as a performance band. Have you already experienced that?
We have not performed yet but the perfect live show should end with a riot. Total chaos through the streets as flames erupt and the pigs in uniform run in fear.
What do you think about the rise of AI in music production?
Complete bullshit, if it's not done by a being with real feelings it's not art.
What attributes do you think that a new Black/Thrash Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Just don't try to impress anyone, be true to yourself and play what you want to hear coming out of the amps. If you are indeed unique people will acknowledge that, or maybe not but why give a fuck anyway?
Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Black/Thrash Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a band to promote its work?
For sure it makes it a lot easier, I don't have the time or patience to just send letters and flyers and then sit and wait for weeks. I gotta be all day out there busting my bones for a paycheck. For me just a Facebook page would do the work.
From your experience in the music industry, what would you tell to a new Black/Thrash Metal band to avoid or what to do?
I encourage all bands to destroy the music industry, metal has become way to much commercial to the point that it lost it's character. I'm sick of seeing everyone treating metal as a product, shut up get in line and pay to get it. I'm not a customer I'M A FUCKING MANIAC.
Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Greece (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
I don't really go to metal clubs they're full of pathetic incels. I prefer roaming out in the streets with cheap beer and drugs. There's a lot of bands popping out here in Greece but some that you definitely got to check out if you're into the raw old school black metal of death are: Mnima, Thromvosis, Necrohammer and the new album of Necrochakal. Also shout-out to Morbid Press zine.
What does Metal means to you? And give us 10 albums that run in your veins.
To me metal is all about non conformity and absolute liberation. Hard to pick just 10 but I will give it a try:
01. Sarcofago - I.N.R.I.
02. Onslaught - Power From Hell
03. Death - Scream Bloody Gore
04. Sodom - Obsessed By Cruelty
05. Blasphemy - Fallen Angel Of Doom
06. Mortuary Drape - All The Witches Dance
07. Exodus - Bonded By Blood
08. Metallica - Kill Em All
09. Napalm Death - Scum
10. Darkthrone - F.O.A.D.
What are your future plans?
Just get the band going again so we can make new music and share it with the dedicated freaks all around the world.
Thank you very much for your time & keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thank you a lot for this invitation, great questions I had a lot of fun doing this. KEEP THE TRUE FLAME BURNING - BLASFEMATOR IS NOT DEAD - EVIL NEVER DIES!
