Interview with RAY MORGAN

!!!COLOMBIAN HEAVY METAL!!!

We had a conversation with RAY MORGAN.Enjoy!
Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL webzine.
1. Tell us a few things about RAY MORGAN (Members, Start Year, etc.).

The band started in 2017 founded by Johan Poveda as drummer and Javier Saldaña on guitar. Then Alberto Gutiérrez as vocalist and Francisco Zarama as second guitarist join the lineup; They suggest Camilo Andrés Suarez as bassist and since this year the band's lineup has remained stable. They all got together with the idea of doing a Heavy Metal project, given its musical influence and that's how Ray Morgan was born.

2. In 2018 you released your EP "Hell Riders". What were the comments from your audience and from the press?

Our EP had a great reception among the followers of the band. We had the opportunity to present it in different media in Colombia, among which we highlight the station of the National University of Colombia and decibélicos radio from Chile. Critics agree that the band's musical style is very rare in our country and that our sound has matured since its inception. It really is a job that has really pleased us and we are very happy because it was a great effort for us to produce it.3. Record label or DIY and why?

We consider that both have pros and cons. However, South America is characterized by having artisanal works given the respect that is kept to the essence of the band. Sometimes the record label takes away some ownership and spontaneity from the bands. So we decided on an independent label.

4. Do you prefer vinyl, tape, CD or digital format and why?

We are lovers of the classic! and we grew up at the time of the tape, that's why we like this format much more. However, we want our music to be heard by all audiences, that is why we released our EP on CD and we are on the music platforms. At this time we do not have a Ray Morgan tape, but we are sure we want to do it.

5. Your musical style is Heavy Metal. What are your main influences (favorite artists / bands, etc.)

Judas Priest, Motorhead, Saxon and Helloween to name a few bands. Really our influence is the 80s, we also like hard rock and bands like Quiet Riot, Ratt and Skid Row have also left marks in our sound. Iron Maiden is indisputably a band that influences many bands worldwide and also from this powerful band we have released some styles.6. What things do you think a band should sacrifice to be successful? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future for your band?

A band must sacrifice leisure, we think that if it is really a passion there should be no "sacrifices" we like what we do, we dedicate time to it, but we know that issues such as family and work can always go hand in hand with our project. We would not say that we have sacrificed, we would say that we have optimized our time and organized our priorities. Our families support us in the project and are always ready to help us improve, therefore they are a very important factor for the band. We always seek balance to have a good relationship with ours and with our band.

7. Describe your ideal live show as an acting band. Have you already experienced that?

Yes it is. The show that every Rocker dreams of has lights and a brutal sound in front of an euphoric audience. We have had the opportunity to step on some stages that have marked us, we hope to soon be able to be at Rock al Parque, which is a festival organized in Bogotá, Colombia, which has had the presence of the most representative bands, both from our country and the rest of the world ... The energy of the public and listening to your songs chanted by hundreds of people I think is our best reward.8. What attributes do you think a new Heavy Metal band should have to gain identity and be unique?

They must be believing in what they like and showing themselves openly, I think the great thing about making metal is that our sound can spit out truths and I think that if a band is dedicated to their music and does it honestly the results will always be the best. It costs a lot of work and a lot of dedication, but you have to dedicate yourself to making music with passion and meaning.

9. Do you think Bandcamp and other digital platforms help new Heavy Metal bands? What do you think is the ideal way for a band to promote their work?

Today it is very necessary to be aware of the digital movement by more conservative than we are. We prefer to go out and play, sell records, exchange them. But digital media is definitely a great showcase, every artist who wants to transcend must make their music easily accessible and we are betting on it precisely. We recently created our profile on Bandcamp and we see that it has helped us transcend borders, so we do believe that digital platforms are very helpful for musical projects.

10. Tell us a few things about the new underground metal scene in Colombia (bands, fanzines, webzines, metal clubs, etc.)

We like the music scene in our country because it has always been underground. This helps us establish ties of true brotherhood with the other gangs. People in Colombia support the events and buy the records from the same bands, so we know that our work and that of the other bands is highly valued. We do not have much infrastructure, district festivals are few and often do not have good administration. Metal clubs are still small, but we're on the right track.11. Do you know any Heavy Metal Band from Greece?

Ravencult, we like it a lot and two years ago we listened to Amken, we like speed, the vocalist and the bassist are simply brutal, in addition to the rest of the troop who also do very well.We do not have much infrastructure, district festivals are few and often do not have good administration. Metal clubs are still small, but we're on the right track.

12. What are your future plans?
We are missing a few small details to release our first album called "Motors and Rock and Roll" that we will be glad to present to you. Additionally we are included in two compilations of metal bands in Colombia that we will soon be publishing in our Bandcamp profile. We have a project, together with the musical house arquetype, to launch our first video clip; We will continue composing and rehearsing since, as we have mentioned, we are passionate about metal and it is our fuel to continue fighting.

13. Thank you very much for your time and keep up the good work! The closure is yours.

IN SPANISH:

Bienvenido al webzine FILTHY DOGS OF METAL.

Nosotros preferimos salir a tocar, vender discos, intercambiarlos.
