Interview with SHADOWS

We had a conversation with John Shades. Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about SHADOWS (Members, Starting Year etc).
I´ve been working in the same studio that i work with APOSTASY, and collaborations are exactly the same, same drummer and the guitarists of Apostasy in the solos, i recorded the rhythm guitars, some solos, bass, vocals and keyboards. When we play live will be the same members adding 1 because i will just sing in SHADOWS.

In 2021 you released your EP ''Into The Nightmare''. What was the feedback from your audience as well as from the press?
It was very low at the beginning but with time has come very good, i appreciate the kind words we receive. Has been reviewed by couples of zines and the copies got out in short time.

Label or DIY and why?
Label, i like all that is used in the old days when i started to hear METAL, is a compliment people want to release your music and others want to get a copy. But is always a compliment and welcome to people who just listen my METAL, even if is only by a platform.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
Vinyl is the format i always loved, for my times, also i like cassettes a lot, in CD i just collect Chilean Metal that is mainly in only that format.

Your music style is Heavy Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
Between others, The Main influence are 3, OZZY OSBOURNE The first 3 albums, MERCYFUL FATE and Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue that was an album i loved when i was a teenager.

Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?
Well, now i am only in This, APOSTASY and SHADOWS, I'm living with things i made in the past so can be considered as a sacrifice not doing other stuff, but im very happy just with my Music projects and my Little Label (CABALIST).

Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
Not Yet, but i want something special, I'm thinking about that, we´ll see what comes.

Which attributes, do you think, that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Work with your own melodies and do the music after that, other than that will be the same Metal as always.

Do you believe that Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
All is Help, but the main Help is that you do to yourself, make something a little original, if people like will tell to others and will share if is via internet, if is not interesting don't care much what you do and where is showed.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Chile (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Here is very good now, lots of bands are good releases, also zines and gigs, after all this Pandemia shit concerts and events are coming back, i see more bands coming out and new bangers, youth which is very good.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Not too much really.

What are your future plans?
To Play live with SHADOWS make more albums and hopefully good scenarios.

Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
Thank you for the interest and opportunity in being in your zine and spread our work in your place. Stay in touch!!
