Interview with REDSTROKE

!!!MEXICAN HARD 'N HEAVY METAL!!!

We had a conversation with Antonio Bega.Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Tell us a few things about REDSTROKE (Members, Starting Year etc).
Thank you, well, Redstroke is a band from Oaxaca, Mexico. who recently debuted with his first demo called Damage Control on November 6th, 2020 with three powerful heavy songs, and all this with a single person behind his lines... me Antonio Bega, I am in charge for composing and producing everything.

You have recently released your demo ''Damage Control''. What is the Feedback from your audience as well as from the Press?
Since the release date is recent, I still don't have comments from the dedicated press to the genre, however to have scarcely ten days since the date release, people have had very positive comments about it.

Label or DIY and why?
I have already knowledge working with labels with my another band called Hellmidian, however this is my first time working completely alone, and you know composing, recording and producing it's a lot of work but it gives you a chance to take your own decisions and also mistakes, so I can't answer it right now which one I prefer.

Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
I am still loving any physic material but right now with Redstroke I'm going with digital, obviously I have plans to make physical editions but till then you can only find Redstroke on Bandcamp or Soundcloud.

Your music style is Hard 'n Heavy Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.).
Redstroke is still on the way to find his own sound, I can't say if it's Hard, or heavy because my influences are very diverse. I can enjoy to listen Krokus and then listen Vio-Lence then some New Retro Wave or other music genre. But I think that as a guitarist I always look for riffs and sounds like Michael Schenker's, Akira Takasaki's or George Lynch's.

Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed?
Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?
For me at least, Being a musician it's a way to live so when you are a musician you don't make sacrifices, you choose give it all! I make sacrifices when i have to decline a show date or when I have to go to "work" instead of being playing, because you know being a musician and a headbanger its not a profitable combination.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
Sure! I have been on stage and I could feel the energy when you connect with people, when they sing your songs and call out your name,  but now with Redstroke I'm going to need to be more creative.

Which attributes, do you think, that a new Hard n' Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Well, I always bet for quality but what i have seen is that when you believe in what you give, and make everything with passion and heart
you connect with your public.

Do you believe that Bandcamp and other Digital Platforms help the new Hard 'n' Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
As i said with Redstroke I'm choosing digital platforms, but I think that you must to know how to work with them, because you need a plan and you must to be persistent and disciplined. There are great bands that has made it with them but every project is different and has different needs.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Mexico (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
What can I say? there is a great scene there are a lot of bands of every sub genre you choose, and on every one there's quality.Every time I convince myself more than Mexico's scene has nothing to envy to other scenes. In fact in Oaxaca that is a small and one of the poorest states of Mexico you can find bands as Hexenbiest, Demetial, Sultans of Beer, thrasher, Black Rider and Survival  that have amazing works with international scope.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
Sure! there are great black metal bands, and also the combination of sounds are really enjoyable, I really like to listen Varathron for example.

What are your future plans?
For now there is time to still enjoying and publishing our new demo "Damage Control" but as I said I work under plans and one first condition to publish Damage Control was to have songs already to record after that, so don't hurry up Redstroke has just begin.

Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
