Interview with MEGATON SWORD

We had a conversation with MEGATON SWORD. Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
1. Tell us a few things about MEGATON SWORD (Members, Starting Year etc).

The most of us knows each other for years. We were at an Obituary concert in Zurich in 2017, drank a lot of beer and talked about new Heavy Metal Bands like Eternal Champion and Heavy Metal in general, as we always do.
But this time the idea has come up to found a new similar band who plays this kind of Epic Heavy Metal.
At first it was just an idea, you know, one of these beer ideas. We were pretty busy at the time, also because we play in other bands. But in 2018 I came with the first riff of “Vulva of the Nightfall” and we felt some real band vibe.
We decided to put more time into this band and wanted as soon as possible write and record some songs.
On those days the great Metal gods from Niralet were in need. They were so desperate that they sent a herald to earth to seek help. So he found us four brave terrestrials and brought us to the gods.
They haven chosen us to lead their legions, gave us mighty powers and named us after a legendary, sacred mountain massif: Megaton Sword.
They also graced us with four warrior names.

2. You have recently released your new album ''Niralet''. What is the Feedback from your audience as well as from the Press?

The Feedback from all sides is incredible. Most of all we are very happy that Deaf Forever
magazine, which is our «holy bible», reviewed our EP.

3. Label or DIY and why?

None of us had any previous experience with a label. We are very happy to work with Dying Victims Productions.
They are doing an excellent Job. Without a label it’s nearly impossible to promote a release. So, if you have the chance to work with a label, i would recommend it.

4. Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?

We all prefer and listen vinyl. It feels more true listening to vinyl. Through the fact you have to put the needle on the vinyl and turn it to the other side, you are listening to music in a more active way.
And of course the larger covers are more beautiful. Digital Format is nice to discover new bands or listen to music on road.
For myself, i buy also CD’s if the sound is more in a modern way or the cover is crap.

5. Your music style is Heavy Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)

Our influences are Manowar, Saxon, Warlord, Candlemass as well as newer bands like Grand Magus or Newcomers like Eternal Champion and Sumerlands.

6. Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed?
Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?

Not yet, that’s a very difficult question, because we are at the beginning of this bands career.
At the moment it is certainly the musical project which has the highest priority for us. But you have to be realistic, it’s pretty much impossible to live on.
Time will tell…

7. Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced

All is about having a good time with a headbanging, fist-raising, drunken crowd who sing along the songs.
8. Which attributes, do you think, that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain
identity and be unique?

Enthusiasm. Characteristic Riffs. Feeling for catchy songs. An overall visual concept (album cover and merch designs, live presentation).

9. Do you believe that Bandcamp and other Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal
Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?

I think Bandcamp and other digital platforms are great tools. You can easily share your songs with the whole world.
The much more difficult part is to promote the songs.

10. Tell us a few things about the New Underground Metal Scene in Switzerland (Bands,
Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)

There are a lot of fantastic underground bands. Most of them play Death or Black Metal, Deathcult, Vomitheist or Matterhorn for example.
But as far as classic heavy metal is concerned, there is no way around Megaton Sword.
Also we have a lot of great venues and at the moment it looks like a new hot spot for Heavy Metal is emerging in Eastern Switzerland.

11. Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?

Spontaneously two Epic Heavy Metal bands come to mind: Battleroar and Wrathblade, they are great.
I also like Varathron and Suicidal Angels. We heard that the Greek fans are very enthusiastic. I hope that we can soon convince ourselves locally.

12. What are your future plans?

Playing as many shows as possible and recording our first Full-Lengh in next spring.

13. Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours.

Thank you for your support! We hope to make it to Greece soon. Hails to our Hellenic fans!

By Steve the Filthy Dog.
