Interview with COBRA SPELL

We had a conversation with Sonia Anubis (Guitars).Enjoy!

Welcome to the FILTHY DOGS OF METAL Webzine.
Thank you so much for having us at your interview! Looking forward to the questions.

Tell us a few things about COBRA SPELL (Members, Starting Year etc).
COBRA SPELL is a heavy/rock band that was founded in The Netherlands by guitarists Sebastian ‘Spyder’ Silva and myself. Sebastian and I have a very special connection, we jam a lot together and felt we had to make a project out of this. By starting COBRA SPELL, we wanted to see the band we didn’t see existed anymore. Praising the artists that dared to show extravagant look, shocking show and hook driven songs.

You are going to release your new EP ''Love Venom''. Tell us a few things about this project.
The EP ‘Love Venom’ is our first release, it showcases the first songs we have ever created. You can expect energetic and sleazy hard rock with a touch of heaviness and speed. Catchy sing-along vocals, flamboyant guitar solo’s and cool grooves! The songs on this EP have been composed by Sonia Anubis, and the lyrics by Sebastian and Sonia. Editing, mixing and mastering has been done by Alejandro Barcoj Gabasa.

Label or DIY and why?
This EP has been self-released, so DIY. We haven't yet received any interesting label offers. So we will wait for that until we get one!Do you prefer Vinyl, Tape, CD or Digital Format and why is that?
All of these formats have something special. But I would say the most accessible one these days is digital format. But the experience of playing a Vinyl is incomparable. So I’d choose for both digital and vinyl.

Your music style is Heavy Metal. Which are your main influences (Favourite Artists / Bands etc.)
We are hugely inspired by the bands from the 80s and it’s all aesthetic. Bands such as DOKKEN, X JAPAN and KISS are very big influences on us!

Which things, do you think, a Band should sacrifice in order to succeed? Have you ever sacrificed anything in your life for a better future of your Band?
In order to succeed I think it’s very important that everyone in the band has the same amount of motivation, passion for the band’s music & concept, and last but not least; the mentality set to “really wanna make it big”.

Describe your ideal live show as a performance Band. Have you already experienced that?
We haven’t had any first live show yet. But have a LOT of idea’s. We prefer for now to keep it secret! So you all can come to our future shows to know!

Which attributes, do you think, that a new Heavy Metal Band should have in order to gain identity and be unique?
Passion and love for music, that’s all… Love what you are playing. I don’t believe in rules in music.

Do you believe that Bandcamp and other Digital Platforms help the new Heavy Metal Bands? Which, do you think, is the ideal way for a Band to promote its work?
Absolutely, certainly Bandcamp and YouTube are easy ways to promote own music. I am not sure though what would be the ideal platform to be honest.

Tell us a few things about the New Underground Black Metal Scene in Netherlands (Bands, Fanzines, Webzines, Metal Clubs etc.)
Actually, the black metal scene lives a lot here in the Netherlands unlike the heavy metal scene somehow. There are many DIY label’s here that release small black projects, and dutch people love this.

Do you know anything about the Hellenic Metal Scene?
I don’t know many bands but some, such as Suicidal Angels, Septicflesh and Inveracity! What are your future plans?
We are certainly wanting to tour internationally, release a full-length, so much more… play with our favourite bands and spread the word about COBRA SPELL. We are dying to get onstage!

Thank you very much for your time & Keep up the good work! The closure is yours.
